How to Make Blood Orangecello

Blood Orangecello is the fancy, dressed up cousin to the more traditional limoncello. Like limoncello, this orange version is made best with good quality vodka. Double or triple this recipe to make enough blood orangecello to share and gift. We love to gift cello in 375ml Renana glass bottles.

Ingredients

4 cups vodka
10 blood oranges large
1 cup sugar
1 cup water

Directions

  1. Place the oranges in a bowl of boiling water, leave for a couple of minutes and then scrub with a brush to remove any wax before rinsing under colder water.
  2. Dry the oranges and carefully remove the skin, removing most of the pith. Add the orange peels to a large jar along with the vodka and cover and place in a cool dark place for 48 hours.
  3. Juice the oranges. Combine the orange juice, sugar and water in a saucepan at high heat, stirring to dissolve. Once mixture reaches a boil, turn down slightly and cook, without stirring for 3 minutes or until the mixture thickens. Set aside to cool.
  4. Strain the vodka to remove the peel and discard the peel. Combine the vodka and syrup and pour into sterilized bottles.
