Vanguard was the last of the Hallertau varieties to be released from the U.S.D.A. breeding program. It has a reputation of having a very close chemistry and aroma to Hallertau mf. Vanguard is typically used in Lager, Pilsner, Bock, Kolsch, Wheat, Munich, Helles, and Belgian-style Ales.
